When using pesticides, the risk should be reduced. To this end, a lowering path with target values should be anchored in the law. The Swiss Farmers Association supports this path.
The members of the National Council for the Economy and Taxes (WAK-N) support a parliamentary initiative of their sister committee under the two initiatives "Healthy Drinking Water" and "For Switzerland without synthetic pesticides":
It proposes legally anchoring a lowering path with target values for the risk of pesticide use. This is meant to create more responsibility, says WAK-N. The Senate Council can now draft a bill. This should be treated in accordance with the 2022+ Agricultural Policy.
The Swiss Farmers Association (SBV) supports the Commission proposal. "The parliamentary initiative thus strengthens the national plan of action for plant protection products," SBV writes Tuesday night in a statement. Thus, the conditions were created for the association so that the Council of States can now continue without further consultation on the initiative to ban the consumption of drinking water and pesticides.
The pesticide initiative calls for the ban on synthetic pesticides for production in Switzerland and imports. The Drinking Water Initiative starts with money: only farmers should receive direct payments that do not require the use of pesticides, preventative or consistently administered antibiotics, or purchased foods.
