The government must deal with the backlog of digitization in the health sector

Digitization can simplify the prevention, treatment and follow-up of patients. This can serve as a basis for new knowledge about disease treatment. This can change processes in the hospital and reduce costs. And digitization can offload clinical staff from their daily work.

Electronic files are an essential tool for solving communication problems and enabling cooperation. Electronic data collections provide information about patient care and support such as unplanned treatments. Regardless of pre-existing conditions, older comparisons can help physicians diagnose. The electronic file of the gematik patient offers it from 2021 under the sovereignty of the patient, who can consult his medical biography. On the other hand, the electronic case file, with the consent of the patient, allows the exchange of interdisciplinary and treatment-related data between physicians, thus creating closely related processes. Remote monitoring now allows patients to be monitored by sensors after they leave the hospital, for example, by cardiac control after an infarction. Hospitals want to continue to optimize medical and nursing processes and accelerate the digital interaction between patients and physicians. However, this can only succeed if hospitals significantly develop patient care and follow-up structures and the necessary investment financing is permanently secure. The federal government must urgently deal with the backlog of digitization in the health sector. The DKG requires a special multi-year program "Digital Hospital" and a "digitization supplement" for all hospitals. Because one thing is certain: the future of the health system is digital.
