Nine development organizations are calling on the federal government to support the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria by 1.2 billion euros through the #FillUpTheFund campaign. Every year, AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria kill nearly three million people. Those living in poverty are particularly affected.

Since its creation in 2002, the Global Fund has saved 27 million lives that would otherwise have died from AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Overall, the number of deaths from the three poverty-related diseases has been reduced by one-third – an impressive achievement that makes the Global Fund one of the most effective financing instruments for global health. In addition to preventing and treating the three diseases, it is strengthening health care by helping low-income countries build sustainable health systems so that all citizens have access to good health care.

This shows that it is possible to put an end to these epidemics – the only decisive factor now is the political will. The Global Fund will need at least $ 14 billion to carry out its successful work in 2020-2022 until the conference on the replenishment of resources to be held in Lyon on October 10, 2019.

#FillUpTheFund – "The Global Fund Needs a Strong German Contribution to Make AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Become Part of History." With this call, the development organizations Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung (DSW), Aktionsbündnis gegen Aids, Friends of Global Fund Europe, Global Citizen, UN, Oxfam, Plan International Germany and World Vision address the Federal Government. Video messages from members of the Bundestag, in which they advocate for a strong contribution from Germany, are at the heart of the campaign. These and other elements of the campaign are available on the campaign website, www.fillupthefund.de.

The achievements of the Global Fund make palpable the stopping of the spread of the three most deadly diseases of the poverty. However, it could quickly become very distant if the global community – and in particular the economically strong nations such as Germany – fear the necessary investments.

            - Since its creation in 2002, the Global Fund has met
with its partner organizations 27 million lives
- Up to now, 35 million people have been affected by AIDS

- Tuberculosis remains the most deadly infectious disease in the world so far:
According to the WHO, 1.6 million people would be victims each year.
In 2017 alone, five million people were sick with the help of
Global Funds Treated.
Every two minutes a child dies of malaria. Nearly 200 million
