How is cervical cancer treated? – Manipal Hospitals

What are the treatment options?
Various treatment options for cervical cancer include surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

What is a reunion?
During early stages of cancer, the doctor may make a conformation when removing a conical cervical piece.

What is Radical Trachelectomy?
In later stages, the doctor may choose a radical trachelectomy, where they remove the cervix and the upper part of the vagina.

What is a common hysterectomy?
In total, hysterectomy removes uterus and cervix, and radical hysterectomy is the removal of the cervix, its surrounding tissues, uterus and vagina. The doctor may also remove the fallopian tubes, ovaries and lymph nodes, depending on where the cancer has spread.

What is a pelvic protrusion?
If the cancer is still recurring, the doctor may use pelvic excisionation, where all organs will be removed in a similar way to radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymph nodes, urinary bladder, vaginal, rectal, and colon. Radiation therapy involves the use of high energy radiation to kill cancer cells. This may be by external radiation therapy or by internal radiation therapy such as Brachytherapy.

Chemotherapy is a systemic application of drugs to stop cancer cells by killing them or preventing their multiplication. Watch a video explaining in detail the different ways of treating cervical cancer.
